How is AI being used in the development

In full transparency AI has been used in development of Where They Go to a moderate degree.  During our time in development AI has gone through many changes.  Seeing a new technology we felt the need to investigate it's impact on development, we have experimented with the tools to measure it's efficacy. In the process were able to see the impact of the technology and weigh the moral implications of it's use.

Currently, no released demo or images have any AI in them. but, we have content that was started with AI and was then heavily reworked by an artist to meet intention and tone in the development,  very similar to kit bashing.  In some cases, used as a filter akin to an advanced photoshop action.

Will AI assets be released in the full game? Ideally, no.  but it is likely that some of them will. We have limited AI generated work for minor items such as base textures that are then modified by an artist.

If you have a firm stance against any AI use, we understand.  Our own stance has and will continue to evolve. Although we think this technology can and will be used in the future, much of it's current use cases are implemented irresponsibly.  We are lucky in the sense that any artwork generated for WTG we can target artists whose work has gone to into the public domain. but even then we lose the nuance of having a dedicated artist.

WE believe artists bring a depth to their work that an AI cannot. Ai may well be a useful tool for artists in the future, but for now we will limit our use of it.  We still invite you to experience our game when it is released.
